  Because most people have never heard of the grapes that go into the bulk of Italian white wines, I decided to do a catch all page for everything other than Pinot Grigio and Pinot Blanc. The Italians are making varietal Chardonnays as well, but with so many other places making this wine, it'll be while before I get around to tasting one of theirs. Most Italian whites are light and crisp with the best showing ripe green or citrus fruit and some minerality. These are not wines to ponder over, but to drink on a hot day with a light meal. I happen to like the bracing acidity and green fruit flavors, but many people will probably not be impressed. Currently the best wines are being made from Arneis in the Roero region of Piedmont, Soave Classicos from the Veneto and Tocai Friulano from Colli in Fruili.
