Drinking pink wine is becoming more acceptable by the day, as the White Zinfandel stigma fades and first-rate winemakers jump on the bandwagon. Rosé has always been a popular wine in Europe and their wines from Provence and Tavel in France and Navarra in Spain are still the standard. There has been an upswing in production over the last decade by those making Rhone-style wines in the New World to add a rosé to their portfolios. Generally, they are made from Grenache or Syrah and sometimes a combination of both and fermented dry. The darker the color the riper the flavors. At their basic level, they all share notes of bright red fruit, usually strawberry, but depending on the grape and technique used, deeper more complex flavors of spice and earth can also be found. These aren't wines to be taken seriously, just ones meant to be enjoyed for their simple, fruity pleasure. They also aren't meant to be aged (trust me), so when you buy it, chill it and drink it. (P.S. I prefer mine on the darker/more robust/fruitier end of the color/flavor spectrum which is reflected in my scoring.)
